Scanning, browsing, search, suggestions and duplicate finding are free, and so are your first 3 cleanups.

One payment, for life

Headroom Lifetime covers one person, all of their Macs and every 1.x update.

Launch pricing

The price starts low and rises as licenses sell, up to a cap. Early buyers keep lifetime access.

14-day refunds

Not for you? Ask within 14 days and get your money back, no questions asked.

You decide what goes

Headroom moves things to the Trash first, with Undo, but what you remove is your call. Keep backups.

Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Swirl Creative (“we”, “us”) about Headroom: the Mac app, its command-line tool, MCP server and Agent Skill, this website, and the Headroom plugin for ChatGPT (together, “Headroom”).

By downloading, installing, buying or using Headroom you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don’t accept them, please don’t use Headroom. You need to be old enough to enter a binding contract where you live.

The free version and free cleanups

Headroom is free to download. Scanning, browsing, both visualizations, search, cleanup suggestions, duplicate finding, command-line and MCP queries, and staging items are free, with no time limit.

Removing items from within the app is metered. Your first 3 cleanups are free. A cleanup is one completed removal action in the app (Move to Trash, Delete Immediately or Empty Trash) that removed at least one item, and undoing a Move to Trash in full gives the cleanup back. After the free cleanups, the app asks for a license before it removes anything.

Headroom Lifetime

Buying Headroom Lifetime gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Headroom Mac app without the cleanup limit: for one person, on all of their Macs, including every 1.x update. It’s a one-time payment, not a subscription, and it doesn’t expire. Later major versions (2.0 and beyond) may be sold separately.

Keep your key to yourself. It’s for one person, so please don’t share it, publish it or use it for a team. Keys are checked on your Mac, so we can’t switch one off remotely, but we may decline to re-issue a key that has been shared publicly.

The license covers the Mac app. The website and the ChatGPT plugin are covered under Updates and hosted services.

Price and checkout

Prices are in US dollars. Headroom Lifetime has a public launch price ladder: the price starts low, rises by a fixed amount for every fixed number of licenses sold, and stops rising at a cap. The website and the app show the current price and how many licenses are left at it.

The price on Stripe’s checkout page is the price you pay, and it’s held only while you’re in that checkout. A checkout expires after about 30 minutes, and starting again gets the price that applies then, which may be higher. Early buyers keep lifetime access at the price they paid.

If we’ve given you a promotion code, you can enter it at checkout. Codes have no cash value and may be limited or expire. Payments are processed by Stripe.

Refunds

You can ask for a full refund within 14 days of buying, for any reason, no questions asked. Contact us using the details below, from the email address you bought with. We refund your original payment method through Stripe, and how long it takes to appear depends on your bank. A refunded license ends, so please stop using the key. This doesn’t affect any rights you have under consumer protection law.

Your files, your decisions

Headroom helps you find things to remove, but what you remove is your decision. It moves items to the Trash first and lets you undo, refuses system, account and keychain locations, and warns you about cloud-synced files and app data. Delete Immediately and Empty Trash are permanent.

Suggestions and their Safe, Review and Be careful labels are our best guidance, not a guarantee that removing something is harmless. Sizes are measured as accurately as macOS allows but can differ from what Finder or other tools report. You’re responsible for your files and for keeping backups, for example with Time Machine.

Acceptable use

Please use Headroom lawfully and fairly. Don’t:

  • use it to break the law or anyone’s rights;
  • copy, resell, rent, sublicense or redistribute Headroom or your license key, or publish your key;
  • reverse-engineer, decompile or modify Headroom, or bypass or tamper with its licensing or cleanup limit, except where the law lets you;
  • probe, attack or overload our website or hosted services, or use automated means to send them excessive requests;
  • send the plugin anything unlawful or malicious, or data you have no right to share.

The ChatGPT plugin, command line and MCP server

The plugin. The Headroom plugin for ChatGPT is a hosted service that works with data you choose to share in a conversation, as the Privacy Policy describes. You’re responsible for what you share: only share data you have the right to share, and never secrets. Answers from an AI assistant can be wrong, so check what it suggests before you act on it. Using ChatGPT is also subject to OpenAI’s terms.

The command line, MCP server and Agent Skill. These run on your Mac. They read your saved scans and can stage items in Headroom’s Cleanup Tray, but they can’t remove anything: removal always takes your confirmation in the app. If you connect them to a coding agent or AI assistant, you’re responsible for that agent, for what it does and for what it sends on to its provider, whose terms apply to that use, not ours.

Updates and hosted services

The Mac app checks for new versions and offers a download; it never installs one by itself. We may change, add or remove features. The website, the plugin and other hosted services are provided for convenience and aren’t part of your license: we may change them, limit how much they can be used, or retire them, and we may block use that breaks these terms. Your license key is checked on your Mac without contacting our servers.

Ownership

Headroom, including its name, icon, code and content, belongs to us and our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Your license lets you use it; it doesn’t transfer ownership. You own your files and data, and we claim no rights in them. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them freely without owing you anything.

No warranty

Headroom is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don’t promise that Headroom will be error-free or uninterrupted, that it will find or size everything on your disk, or that removing any particular item is safe. Some places don’t allow certain exclusions, so some of this may not apply to you.

Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost files, data, profits or revenue, however they arise from your use of Headroom, even if we were told they might happen. Our total liability for all claims about Headroom is limited to what you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim, or US$50 if you haven’t paid us anything.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your rights under consumer protection law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be brought in the state and federal courts located in Texas, and you and we consent to those courts. If you’re a consumer, you keep the mandatory protections of the law where you live, and nothing here stops you from going to a court or regulator there. Before starting a claim, please contact us: most problems can be fixed quickly.

Changes and ending these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and if a change is material we’ll say so on this page before it takes effect. If you keep using Headroom after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. A change doesn’t apply to a dispute that began before it.

You can stop using Headroom at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or end your access to our hosted services if you break these terms or misuse them. Sections that by their nature should continue after the terms end, such as ownership, the disclaimers, the limit of liability and governing law, do.

General

These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Headroom. If part of them can’t be enforced, the rest still applies, and not enforcing something right away doesn’t mean we’ve given it up. You can’t transfer your license to someone else; we may transfer our rights and obligations if the business changes hands.

Apple, Mac, macOS, Finder and Time Machine are trademarks of Apple Inc., and ChatGPT is a trademark of OpenAI. Headroom is an independent product, not affiliated with or endorsed by them.
